While Erik Santee has been an outdoor enthusiast his whole life, he did not discover a passion for landscaping until his late 20s. At that time, he was working as a Project Manager/Owner Representative for the Consulate General of Japan in Portland, Oregon. Erik was involved with many construction projects including residential remodels, a new Consular Office in Downtown Portland and a $1 million renovation/rebuild of the Consul-General’s Official Residence in the Dunthorpe neighborhood.
Working with Architects and Construction companies was enjoyable, but the opportunities to work with esteemed landscape designer Hoichi Kurisu of Kurisu International were eye opening experiences. The creative possibilities seemed endless. Going through the design process and seeing that vision installed was extremely rewarding.
Finding his calling, Erik Santee then studied Landscape Technology at Portland Community College with a focus on Landscape Design and Construction. In 2006, he earned a Certificate in Landscape Design. Around the same time, a fortuitous opportunity arose to relocate to Hood River, Oregon. Windswept Landscapes was established in 2006 and has been providing landscape design services throughout the Columbia Gorge since.
